New traffic investigation offices

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: The Chennai Suburban Police has created eight traffic police ranges in St.Thomas Mount, Ambattur and Madhavaram police districts. The ranges are in addition to the three existing investigation headquarters in these districts.

So far, there were only three traffic investigation wing offices in Pallavaram, Poonamallee and in Madhavaram.

A release from Suburban Police Commissioner S.R.Jangid said that in St. Thomas Mount district, the three new traffic police ranges would function from Tambaram and Pallikaranai police stations and from a booth below Kathipara grade separator, while the headquarters would remain in Pallavaram.

In Ambattur police district, the three new ranges would function from Ambattur, Avadi and Maduravoyal, while the headquarters would continue to function from Poonamallee. In Madhavaram, the headquarters would be at Manjambakkam, while the two new ranges have been created at Manali and Madhavaram.

Mr. Jangid said the new arrangement was for easy access to the public and to ensure that traffic policemen in charge of investigation road accident cases reached the spot quicker. The new range offices would have six policemen who would be working round the clock in three shifts. This would also help in reducing the burden of personnel on duty at the traffic investigation headquarters who till now had to attend to a huge number of both fatal and non fatal road accident cases every day coming under the jurisdiction of all police stations of their respective police districts.
