Kolar observes bandh against load shedding

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR: Barring a few incidents of stone throwing, a bandh called by the Power Consumers’ Welfare Forum with the backing of Krishik Samaj, DYFI, JMS and CPI(M), was peaceful on Friday.

The forum organised the agitation to condemn erratic power supply in most parts of the district.

All shops and business establishments remained closed. While some schools and colleges declared a holiday as a precautionary measure, many could not function on Friday on account of the bandh. Government offices worked normally, while transactions in banks were hit.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus-stand was deserted with many schedules cancelled after stones were thrown at buses.

Several buses and autorickshaws were damaged in stone throwing.

A girl suffered head injuries when she was hit by a stone while waiting for a vehicle to return home.

MLA’s support

Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash supported the bandh. Mr. Prakash told presspersons that senior Bescom and KPTCL officials in the district were responsible for power problem.

“Although I won’t participate in the bandh activities, I support the cause as the power problem affects all sections of society,” he said.
