Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala University union is planning to kick-start a road safety campaign involving nearly three lakh students in 189 colleges coming under it. The union will initiate the drive in association with a host of government, corporate and non-governmental agencies.

The objective will be to generate scientific awareness, positive attitude and cognitive skills among the student community and to reduce road accidents. The campaign will involve colleges in the city, Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta.

As a part of the drive, programmes including mobile exhibitions, road shows, street plays, mass runs and cultural programmes will be arranged.

The campaign will be technically supported by the Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC)-India Road Safety Alliance.

A draft proposal of the Rs.36-lakh project was presented here on Friday by Johnson J. Idayaranmula, director, ADIC-India Road Safety Alliance, at a meeting presided over by N. Jayakrishnan, vice-chancellor, Kerala University. The three-month campaign will conclude in January next year.
