Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Coastal Corridor Area Praja Hakkula Parirakshana Samiti has described the proposed Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) project as a real estate business and an onslaught on the livelihood of nearly 10,000 poor families. The samiti at its recent meeting here passed 12 resolutions, including one to mobilise the support of all political parties for tabling a resolution in the Assembly against the PCPIR and Kakinada SEZ.

The other resolutions are for recognising every person in the SEZ area as displaced irrespective of their land holdings, extending benefits of the relief and rehabilitation (R&R) package to these sections and also those dependent on the lands acquired for the projects, depositing Rs 1,000 crore with the district Collector as job safety fund, providing education facilities for all the affected students, punishing the officials, who acquired 2,052 acres of assigned lands in alleged defiance of the High Court orders and registering house sites and houses in the names of the beneficiaries.

Cancelling the proposal to set up a separate sea port for the KSEZ, paying Rs 7 lakh more to those, who lost their lands, forming a joint action committee comprising members of people’s organisations, farmers, tenant farmers, farm labourers and other aggrieved sections, revise the existing R&R package and inquiring into the irregularities being committed in the process of setting up the PCPIR and KSEZ projects
