Mullaivendan (right) are in the picture. — DHARMAPURI: Deputy Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated an indoor stadium at the district sports stadium in Dharmapuri on Sunday. After inaugurating the stadium Stalin, Collector P. Amutha and Superintendent of Police R. Sudhakar played shuttle cock for a while. The multipurpose indoor stadium, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.04 crore, has portable courts for various games. The stadium can be customised according to the needs of the games to be played such as 4 badminton courts, two volleyball courts, basketball court, a gymnastics court and kabbadi court with mattress etc. Viewers’ gallery has been designed with a seating capacity of 500. During day time, events can be conducted without lights as the roof of the stadium has been fitted with polycarbon sheets. The entire floor has been made up of teak wood. Besides this, a gymnasium hall has been built at a cost of Rs. 12 lakh through funds from MPLAD extended by Communist Party of India M.P. T.K. Rangarajan. It would be inaugurated by the MP soon, District Sports Officer C. Kirupa told The Hindu on Monday. Mr. Kirupa also said that Mr. Stalin gave his nod for laying two more tracks by taking a portion of the adjoining Adhiyaman Government Boy’s Higher Secondary School. Mr. Kirupa added that the stadium would be upgraded to 8-lane track to get eligible for conducting national and international sports events with this extension. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
