Six schools make it to the top spot

PUDUCHERRY: Six schools from the Union Territory will contest at the National Children’s Science Congress to be held at Ahmedabad from December 27 to 31. Their science projects were adjudged best from about 25 project teams from Puducherry, Karaikal and Mahe regions at the 17th State Level Children’s Science Congress-Puducherry held on November 23 and 24.

The selected teams and their projects are as follows : Kamban Government Higher Secondary School, Nettapakkam on ‘Oxygen enriched environment’, St. Patrick Matric Higher Secondary School on ‘Growth rate of plants’, St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School on ‘Energy audit at homes’, KMK Kannaiah High School, Karaikal on ‘Floral diversity study’, St. Theresas High School, Mahe on ‘Study of pollen grains’ and Government Middle School, OK Palayam on ‘Analysis of fuel wastage at traffic junctions’, according to a press release. The congress, which was organised by the State Training Centre (STC) and Pondicherry Science Forum, was inaugurated on November 23 by director of School Education S. Sundaravadivelu. Officer on Special Duty, STC V. Krishnan and President of the forum and Head of Paediatrics, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research S. Srinivasan were present.

Participants were taken to a lab-scientist interactive programme to 11 science departments of the Pondicherry University the next day, added the release.
