Earth shattering

KABITA ROY

Earthquakes are an inevitable natural phenomenon.

To give a fillip to research on earthquakes and to promote the education of disaster prevention, the Taiwan China released a set of three stamps on earthquake and relief.

The stamps were released on September 21, 2000.

The first stamp features the network of seismographs that cover the island of Taiwan. The second stamp shows the highly efficient performance of those working to save lives under difficult circumstances. The red cross on the upper left side of the stamp conveys the international dimension of the rescue efforts.

The last stamp shows outdoor and indoor earthquake drills, with people observing basic injury prevention principles.
