Deciduous trees
Kabita Roy
In 1999, Denmark released a set of four stamps, a FDC and a postcard featuring deciduous trees in Denmark. The stamps depict beech, Fagus sylvatica (DKK 4,00), ash, Franxnus excelsior (DKK 5,00), small-leafed linden, Tilia cordata (DKK 5,25) and oak, Quercus robur (DKK 9,25).
The beech blossoms in May with long-stemmed, hanging tufts of male flowers or catkins of female flower. The beech is the most common deciduous tree in Denmark. The ash is an exciting plant and only grows in the most fertile of forests. The small-leafed linden blossoms in June-July with yellowish white and scented flowers. The oak blossoms in May with hanging catkins and female flowers in cup-shaped bowls.
