Woman power

The Norwegian government has said that it would force companies to guarantee that at least 40 per cent of board members are women. The controversial plan was unveiled on the eve of International Women's Day. Ministry officials said they were unaware of similar boardroom quotas for women in any other Western nation. Women are scarce in top jobs in Norwegian companies though they have had a strong position in the rest of the society.
