Playing with ice cubes

W.A.F. HOPPER

Take two ice cubes. Place one in a dish and the other in your palm. Which of them melts first? Why?

Keep an ice cube in your right palm and one in your left. Does one melt faster than the other? Why?

Now take three ice cubes. Place one on a dish, the other under sawdust in a box and the third covered in salt. Observe what happens. Find out the reasons.

Take a glass of water and indicate the level of water in it. Place an ice cube in it. Let it float. Mark the level of water. When the ice cube has melted, once again measure the level of the water. Repeat the experiment a couple of times. Note your findings.

Measure 250 ml of kerosene in a glass. Gently drop an ice cube into it. Note your observations.
