It was sheer fun and frolic in Hyderabad at The Hindu Young World Regional Quiz as 754 teams battled to enter the All India finals.

Despite a power upsurge that spoilt the penultimate round and a mini-riot as the kids (and adults) stampeded Telugu star Chiranjeevi, the Hyderabad edition of The Hindu-Young World Quiz 2002 saw the team from Hyderabad Public School win the regional finals for the third consecutive year. Of the 754 teams that turned up, the six finalists were chosen without much difficulty. With Rs. 2.25 lakhs of regional sponsorship to spur them on, the teams were ready to slug it out for the finals.
Despite initial hiccups, Daanish Raj and Tarun Kovvali from HPS made it to the first spot beating Sharat Chandra and Venkataditya from St. Paul's. Mohd. Hidayin Ansari and Bhuvan Prasad from Ratna Junior College came third. An initially well-behaved crowd of 1000-odd kids went crazy at the sight of the chief guest, Chiranjeevi and his fellow film personalities Brahmanandam, A.V. Subramaniam and Ali. Quiz master V.V. Ramanan had a constant appeal: " Guys, keep your cool."
The title sponsors were Eveready and the co-sponsors were Hercules Cycles, Titan Watches, Britannia, The Fourth R, and the official drink was Coca Cola. The event was managed by Letsquiz.com.
The regional sponsors were Visu Consultants, Coaching India Ltd., Nalanda Education, Sony, Cream Line Dairy Products, Pens 'n' Pads, Pizza Corner, The British Library, Standard Fireworks, Natrak Handicrafts, Taj Krishna, Shoppers' Stop, Music World, Monginis, Little Gestures, Top Ramen, NIIT, Hotel Viceroy, Meena Bazar, Bata's, Ayyan's Fireworks, Standard Fireworks, Elite Crystals, Noori Travels, Image Hospitals and the quiz was to be telecast on `C' channel.
